I help female entrepreneurs like you effortlessly feel put-together and confident, so they can make more money in their business.
Together we’re normalizing style as a tool for success and empowering other women to see what’s possible when you know your signature style and translate that into a closet full of go-to outfits.
It’s that time again! The birds are chirping, the snow is gone, and now it’s time to transition your closet back to brighter colors and thinner pieces because SPRING IS HERE.
You may have noticed that you’re “getting over” the pieces you currently have and are craving something new and exciting. That’s where these spring trends can become wardrobe essentials.
Just remember: Even though it’s trending that doesn’t mean you have to wear it! Treat trends like a buffet: buy what you like and skip what you don’t.
To help freshen up your wardrobe here are the top 8 fashion trends you can add to your closet this spring:
Classic, versatile, and always in style. What more could you ask for? Stripes are a pattern anyone can add to their wardrobe, especially in the spring time. Pair them with everything from white jeans to navy dress pants to a jacket with a pop of color.
Pro Tip: Opt for a thinner knit sweater that you can transition from bright spring days to cool summer nights to a comfortable fall afternoon.(Looking for an amazing sweater? You’ve got to check out this versatile cardigan.)
2. SNAKESKIN
If you have an edgy style or like to push the boundaries then you have to try a snakeskin print this season! Animal prints are all the rage right now, but this one in particular is fabulous because it can be worn in so many different ways. You can try a subtle look in a black pair of snakeskin shoes or really go bold with a snakeskin printed shirt. Either way you’ll be styling!
Pro Tip: Snakeskin doesn’t have to be in a neutral, but if you do try it in a bold color, make sure it’s not too loud. You want to be on the chic side of things. (You might also find this video helpful: “How do I wear an animal print?“)
This is a fashion must-have in most women’s closets. Not only will it add a slightly casual twist to your outfit, but it’s a transitional piece that will move from season to season. I recommend adding a pair of olive dress pants and chinos in your wardrobe for ultimate versatility.
Pro Tip:Unless you’re a strictly classic, preppy, or extroverted style this trend is for you! (Not sure what your style is? Take the “What’s my Style?” quiz.)
4. GEOMETRICS
You probably have a ton of stripes, go-to solids, and florals in your wardrobe, but now it’s time to spice up your outfit by adding something a bit bolder. A geometric is perfect because it’s classic, comes in both big and subtle prints, and you’ll be able to find them in a wide range of colors this season.
Pro Tip:Make sure to stick to your color palette when buying this print so it easily mixes + matches with your current clothes.
From a simple sweatshirt tee with a ruffle of fabric peeking out from underneath to a staple blouse to layer under your blazer, ruffles come in all shapes and sizes and will be easy to find in stores this season.
Pro Tip: For a more whimsical look, I recommend finding ruffles that are more subtle, loose, or flowing. You’ll distill the essence of this look without looking too dramatic.
6. DRAWSTRING RUCHING
This trend is great if you want to dress up your casual looks or if you have a sportier style. You’ll see ruching like this on everything from shirt sleeves to jacket waistlines.
Pro Tip: Since it’s just a fun accent piece, don’t fill your wardrobe with tons of shirts in this style; just a few will do!
7. BOLD FLORALS
I know I know… florals in spring… groundbreaking. It’s really a staple piece all year but it made the trend list because it has a unique twist. This season you’ll see lots of big bold florals similar to 60s and 70s prints. There will be a lot of throwbacks this spring, but this one will definitely be everywhere.
Pro Tip- Make sure you find a modern version of this print by choosing current silhouette or something in your color palette. If your piece looks like it’s straight out the 60s or 70s, you’ll end up looking outdated. Yes- it’s a fine line to cross. You’ll probably see 20 year olds wearing the look just as it was 40-50 years ago because let’s face it: 20 year olds can get away with wearing anything. (Love Florals? Check out my segment with NBC on wearing Dark Florals.)
Spring is normally known for its pale pastel colors and the slow transition into a brighter summer palette, but not this year! This spring you will see a brighter version of an “ice cream shoppe/sherbet” palette, filled with saturated colors.
Pro Tip:Since these are colors we’ve started to see year round, feel free to invest here. As always, only invest in it if you love it and if you can find bright tropical colors that are in your color palette.
